ETHNOGRAPHY

This contains collections originating from Bratislava and its former surrounding villages which today are integrated into Bratislava – Vajnory, Rača, Devín, Devínska Nová Ves, Dúbravka, Lamač, Záhorská Bystrica, Petržalka, Jarovce, Rusovce, Čuňovo.

A large group comprises textiles – garments and shoes for men, women, children, various textile products - towels, table-cloths, so-called corner sheets (a sheet draped around the bed in which a woman gave birth), covers, bedding, patterns for embroidering, laces, ribbons and other accessories. A collection of sacred textiles is of special note. There is a substantial collection of ceramics –earthenware and faience both for daily use and as decorations. Items made by J. Franko, I. Bizmayer and F. Kostka are the most frequent.

Other materials are represented by a set of wooden sculpts, paintings on glass, bottles, preserving jars, and mugs. Also highly valued are the so-called bottles of patience (glass bottles with tiny wooden objects inside the bottle).

Part of the collection of ethnography consists of agricultural and artisanal tools, household items and rustic furniture (coffers, benches, corner cupboards etc).
